Chronometer of Light
Measuring Time
At the heart of this piece is a genuine 1987 antique Chinese scale beam. Its function is transformed from weighing objects to measuring light, posing a metaphysical question: how do we measure the intangible, such as time?
The beam rests on a century-old lightning-struck wood base; its pan replaced by a 1950s blue-and-white porcelain bowl holding an LED candle. The cast shadow becomes a graduated scale of light.
A collectible conversation piece that invites contemplation on transformation, time, and Eastern philosophy.
Materials: 1987 antique scale beam, century-old lightning-struck wood, ~1950s porcelain bowl, LED light. 51x67x30cm.
